Honey Glow Hydrating Facial in Salt Lake

What is a facial? A spa treatment designed to cleanse, exfoliate, nourish and treat skin variations while regulating the nervous system to reduce stress and tension. They usually follow a common outline of steps but can vary based on skin goals. In the Honey Glow, I've designed the steps to flow in 60 minutes.
Double Cleanse and Analysis We start by removing makeup, SPF and previous products so we can see and feel the skin. Touch is part of the analyzing process, i'm feeling for roughness, bumps, swelling, heat and tension. The first cleanse is a cream or oil and helps to dissolve oil based products and build up of sebum (natural oil produced by our skin) The second cleanse is a bubbly cleanser that can go deeper and may contain enzymes or acids that begin to break down your dead skin or clogged pores. I will use a lamp to look at your skin and I'm not judging, just looking for things we can help or things that we need to avoid harming.

Exfoliation and more Analysis I'll pick a fruit enzyme or an acid product to exfoliate (remove dead skin) your skin type and brush it onto your face. A machine will be creating clouds of steam to keep the product warm and wet and to melt hardened oil in the pores. Let me know if the steam feels uncomfortable, some like a lot and others like a little, and I always want to customize for your comfort! I will be checking to see how pink your skin gets, just in case your skin is getting too stimulated. I massage your scalp while the product works for 7-10 minutes, the temples and area where the back of the neck meets the base of the skull are usually very tight! (occipital and suboccipital muscles)

Extractions Now that the skin is clean and the sebum is softened, we can do conservative extractions. I wear gloves and use cotton soaked in astringent toner to gently squeeze and remove clogged pores, whiteheads, and blackheads. I call it "conservative" because doing too much can cause bruising, infection, inflammation, scars, pigment problems and unnecessary pain, so I analyze and decide which can benefit from extraction and which are better treated with products and the body's natural processes over time. Sometimes I use a metal extractor tool and/or puncture the skin with a single-use lancet to extract milia.

Toner and Serums At this point in the facial, the skin is ready to absorb, so I apply Skinscript Cucumber Hydrating Toner. It's my favorite toner for a dry climate because it contains a type of water molecule that evaporates much slower and stays on the skin longer. Water loss due to evaporation is one of our biggest challenges in the dry air of Utah. Water loss can cause milia, stubborn blackheads, rough texture and products not absorbing, so it's crucial to use a product that adds water into the skin. It has cucumber extract to cool and soothe, honey to draw in moisture, borage oil for anti-inflammatory properties and omega 6 essential fatty acids and much more. Amazing toner and the foundation of healthy skin in a dry climate! I then apply a hyaluronic acid hydrating serum with firming peptide ingredients.

Massage Mask Everyone's favorite! I'll give you a slow, relaxing and lifting facial massage using the Honey Nourishing Mask. The texture is rich and gooey and it warms on the skin as I spread it, a luxurious, unique sensory experience. It contains a peptide that regenerates skin, honey for moisture, sunflower and seabuckthorn oils for healing essential fatty acids and amino acids, ginger for antioxidants, microcirculation and antiinflammatory healing, vitamin B5 for skin repair and allantoin to sooth itchy dry skin. We can reduce fine lines and wrinkles by releasing the muscle and fascia that is pulling and folding the skin. Increased circulation in the skin and muscle improves firmness, health and a rosy glow. After the face massage, we let the mask soak in longer while I massage your chest, neck and shoulders.

Neck, Shoulder & Chest Massage Therapy Because I'm licensed in both Master Esthetics and Massage Therapy, I can offer you more targeted muscular relief. My pressure can be light, medium or medium firm, and glides slowly to find the knots or trigger points and treat them without being too aggressive or painful. I also use a couple hot stones here to soften the muscles and calm the nerves. Always let me know if the pressure is too much since we want to make you less stressed, not more!

Finishing products As we begin to wrap up the facial, we use products like eye cream, more serums, moisturizer and SPF (if it's daytime) to seal in the moisture, protect against further damage, reduce water loss by evaporation and help strengthen your skin's natural defensive barrier. I aim for a deeply hydrated but not greasy finish!

Honey Glow Facial FAQ
Does it hurt? The extractions can feel uncomfortable but I try to be gentle and they are optional so let me know if you don't want that done at all. Tight muscles can be a bit sore when pressed but I want to stay within your tolerance. It may feel good and hurt a little at the same time but please inform me if it just hurts and I'll adjust. A facial is not torture. The enzyme or acid exfoliation can feel tingly or a little prickly at first, but that should fade as the product penetrates and does it's work. Communication is key, let your provider know if something feels uncomfortable or you are unsure.

Does it sculpt? Yes, you can get a subtle sculpting effect from massage and products that increases with repeated work over time. Faces are living, moving tissue, not clay, so please consider realistic expectations.

Can anyone receive it? We need to ask you health questions before the facial because some situations can be aggravated by facials or massage. Please always inform us of medications you take or skin products you've used, procedures you've had done, allergies or sensitivities. The booking process walks you through these questions, please answer accurately and update the form whenever you have changed. Our Honey Glow Hydrating Facial is generally safe and can be customized for sensitive skin, allergies or medications. This is a great facial for beginners or for those who don't know what their skin needs.

Do I need a whole hour? The time goes by fast because there's so much to do for the skin and muscles. I only offer 30 minute facials if you're adding it to a massage or other spa services that day. Even then, we have to remove steps to make it fit. It's great as an intro if you're hesitant.

It says you offer infrared healing heat, is that a sauna?
Nope, it's a warming mat you're laying on, underneath the sheets. Let us know if you want it turned up or down for your comfort.

How do I choose my facial session? At Calm & Glowing Spa, Jen offers just a few facials to keep the choices simple and then you customize by adding on more massage types or time consuming products. You will learn what textures and experiences you enjoy receiving on top of what the Esthetician recommends for your skin's needs. Text Jen if you need help choosing a facial services. If you're customizing with add ons, please make sure to allow for the additional time. If you're not sure how much time you've scheduled, text Jen to ask.
